A special day

While it is true that we can only live each moment once, there are times in a person’s or persons’ lives that are more unique, and special. Today July 20th it happens that two very special events are taking place and, because of that, I am officially hijacking this blog to congratulate them.

First, I want to wish a very happy birthday to my boss, OAS FCU’s CEO Carlos Calderon, who is 60 years old today. Because not everyone knows him (though lots of you do!), I want to write a little about him:

Carlos is, above all, a very kindhearted person. He is one of those rare people with whom you can talk about anything, any time. His door is always open for members and employees of the credit union alike, and he has a kind comment and a helpful hand for every person.

He is driven, but driven for the greater good, and that shows in everything he has done since he took over the reins of our credit union. With him OAS FCU has become an open-doors kind of organization, one that focuses on the needs of every single member, and strives to bring to them the best of every financial service, with the best smile.

Long before banks and other credit unions ever considered the possibility of having direct communication with clients, Carlos was already looking for ways for our Credit Union to reach members, not just in service, but inviting them to communicate their needs, their ideas, suggestions, and their wishes. In doing so he laid the foundation for the many different ways the credit union has of serving members wherever they may be today, for the huge variety of products, loans, accounts, and services that OAS FCU offers now, a variety that continues to grow, evolve, and improve based on what we, the members need.

There are many great leaders out there. But OAS FCU would be hard-pressed to find a better CEO than Carlos Calderon.

Happy birthday, jefe.

And now to the second event, with more personal congratulations. My dad, Thomas Charles Inskip and his partner Eleanor Takahashi, after more than 30 happy years together, have decided to tie the knot. They are getting married today in their home in Texas, between 4 and 5 pm CST.

Eleanor, Dad: we're sorry we’re unable to be there today, but know that we are thinking of you, wishing you many more years of happiness, and sending you all the love in the world!
