Selected Elected

Voting season has started for the credit union. As usual, they have sent us an alert that
volunteers are needed. In a few weeks more, they will send us the lists of the candidates to the various committees and board, along with instructions as to how and when we will be able to cast our vote.

I bring this subject up because every year the credit union has new members who maybe aren’t familiar with the subject of how credit unions work and therefore, they do not give the elections their due importance.

I am not going to go into a diatribe on the how and why credit unions exist. Here you have an article that explains their origin, and how they run.

The truth is that these volunteers are exactly that, qualified volunteers who in good faith offer their time and knowledge to help the credit union make decisions that affect us all; from loan approval to deciding our interest rates for the next trimester, as well as the hiring of new personnel. And from key decisions such as considering which new technologies would work better, to which new services might be in the best interest of our members and should be implemented.

These volunteers offer their time expecting nothing in return, simply because they
understand the importance of maintaining the stability of our institution through every small and big daily decision, day in, day out. They help because they understand that this is our financial institution, that ti belongs to all of us, and only with everyone’s help are we going to get the best our money can get us.

If you believe yourself qualified to help us by volunteering, or wish to suggest someone else, follow the instructions on the email.

And regardless of your wish to volunteer, remember that this is a shared enterprise, owned by us all, and your vote is not obligation but a right to which you are entitled, as member and owner. And, as such, you can feel proud that you are given a voice with which to direct those decisions that affect us all.
